Lovers' Diary - Marco

Marco is a "Twitter-er". That's how I got to meet him. He sent this to me a few weeks ago, it's a recount of his first meeting with a girl he met a few years ago. It's a wonderful piece, definitely worth reading!

Beginnings.

Met Cathy today. We met up at a café - Oggie’s - but it was closed so we went to another one next door. I met her on RSVP. She actually has been instigating the whole thing from day one. She’s taken the initiative to call me and to ask me out on a date. I am impressed.

She had a mocha, I had a flat white and we shared a chocolate cake slice (which we hardly touched). We talked about her sister’s wedding preparations, her wanting to base jump when she’s 80 and dying with nothing to lose, the SAW movies, her work opening and closing doors and socialising with the guys at her work. Her work hours are 2pm – 10.30pm. I mentioned about John flying, my roster and the fact that I hardly go out in the 5 days back because I’m resting, my hope to finish by Christmas, her old Kalgoorlie house (that has a red light outside it signifying it is now a brothel), her twin overseas that moved out of home at 13 that is more like a distant relative to her. She said she is closer to the President of the USA than to her.

I gave her an extract of my autobiography that I started writing, a piece relating to my time in Jakarta. She took it when we said goodbye and said she’d let me know what she thinks as she got into her yellow car, after initiating the hug and somewhat air-kiss, similar to the one I initiated when I walked up to her when I'd arrived, while she was talking on the phone. When we parted, I walked back to my car which was parked a bit further away and deliberately didn’t turn around to wave.

It was a very pleasant meeting and I was comfortable around her. She looked a lot better than her RSVP photo. She’s into shoes and her sister Amy is into handbags. Amy and fiancée Stuart have been together for 11 years, engaged for 2 of them. Their wedding is in early November. They own properties in Mt Hawthorn and Rockingham, areas they move between every couple of years to play the property market. They demolish one and move into the other. Cathy’s family is in, or knows people who own, a building company so they can build houses a lot cheaper than most. I think one of her uncles is also a manager at Midland Brick, so they get bricks cheaply too.

I think I mentioned I’m researching property, shares and internet businesses in the next couple of weeks while I have to wait for my follow up appointment with the cardiologist registrar at RPH before I can go back to work. Cathy is recovering from the removal of a brain tumour. Apparently she’s had it done more than once and its in a tricky position so she’ll need to get it done every few years. She looked fine save for wearing a beanie when I met her. I’ll say a prayer for her tonight...

That's a lovely story. Are they still together?

That's was great. I liked that he kept the tumor part till the end. People tend to stereotype cancer patients as not being fit to get out and do things.
