They Don't Sell to the Public (Part 1)

It was the girls day out yesterday. Mother Dearest and I decided to go and visit an alternative art gallery in the Swan Valley that her boss had told her about.

Gomboc Gallery

The pieces were stunning! The most interesting one would have been the stone rings that were interlocked, I have no idea how the artist would have created it. I do know that if I wanted to buy it, it would set me back about $55,000. Nice piece though.

It had a whole lot different type of art, some were constructions made of wire, steel, acrylic. There were abstract paintings that looked like "art" up close, but when you stood two rooms away, you could begin to make out faes and scenes. There were realistic paintings that were clear as day and inconceivably well put together.

My favourite would be the collection of doves made from steel that were tall, iconic, stunningly simple pieces that strikes a chord within. There were sculptures that felt like they were six feet tall, and ones that could pose as extravagant centrepieces. I think I'll ask for one as a wedding present...just got to find a better half.

Anyway, the other pieces that caught my eye, were a set of torsos made of bronze. One male, completely toned. I was astounded by the level of detail, each muscle in his back finely crafted and defined. It was a beautiful thing to see. The female torso was the other. This was a 'real woman', she had boobs, a caboose (bum) and a nicely formed belly. The fact that it was so natural and seemed effortless. I'm not quite sure how a bronze sculpture can be effortless, but, that's how it seemed. I might ask for that one too, not sure where I'd put it, but I've got plenty of time to think about that.
