They Don't Sell to the Public (Part 2)

After spending an hour or so discovering the arts in our own backyard, we dragged ourselves away from the *very* welcoming party (a gorgeous German Shepherd by the name of Diva) and decided to head off to New Norcia.

We new the general direction, but weren't entirely sure how to get there. When we saw the little sign by the side of the road saying "NN 110", we realised that we were in fact, going in the right direction. We also realised, it was a little farther away than we had imagined.

The distance was no bother, we had all day to kill, on the way there we passed all the Swan Valley wineries, Oakwood, Garbin Estate, Houghtons. This was the day I found out Houghton's is actually a WA winery, news to me!

By this time the hunger pains were kicking in, we were tempted to stop by the wineries and have a nice bite to eat there, but the reputation of the New Norcia Bakery had finally gotten to us and we decided to hold off until we arrived.

The drive couldn't not have been longer. But it was made a little more enjoyable by the scenery. There were the deep greens of the trees against the brilliant green of the fields. The vineyards became open land. You could see the evidence of the most recent bush fires to hit the area, while a meter away would be trees and bushes basking in the suns rays, healthy as ever.

The winding roads make way to those typical scenery paintings. Hills that seem to roll into each other and spread all the way out into the distance. The deep chocolate soil gave away the fields that had been recently farmed. The most beautiful pallet is the one that nature gives us.

We watched the numbers ev-er-so-slow-ly dwindle down from 110 to 85 to 65 to 60 to 15 to 5. "Welcome to New Norcia".

FINALLY.
