Athena sent me two pieces to add to the Lovers' Diary and I am equally in love with both of them, but I am only posting one today.
I envy her way with words. She has the most cheerful, encouraging, upbeat blog, you simply must check it out. She always puts a smile on your face, and manages to write in such a way that it feels like every post is just for you.

"You sit framed in our house
a picture from your wedding day
sometimes I pick you up
and you're so fragile in my hands
I quickly set you down again
so everyone can see
how proud we are
how fond we are
how much you mean to me.
And just the other morning
we saw
a moth sitting, waiting,
on the wooden door.
my father, he exclaimed
that you had come to visit.
We exchanged
knowing grins
at his usual
superstition
but the wonder, the question
(that didn't escape from our lips)
the thought of you being here
lingered
for a week.
I don't expect people
to truly understand,
how much I simply miss you,
how much you were my role model
when I've seen you but only
a number of times
I could count on both my hands.
But I remember
reaching out
clasping hands,
we were both small
you were fragile
I was weak
but we held each other up
and by your bedside we did not stray
(day after night
after day)
until it was time to say goodbye.
We whispered farewells each time
and over the years
you faded a little,
but we always knew
our love would reach you.
and one afternoon
after school
in the car
my mother raised her glasses,
red-rimmed
and stared me down,
my heart jumped.
You left in the night
and you came to me the next day.
I didn't even realise you were gone,
I was half a world away
half a day too late.
You were the strongest soul,
and I rejoiced over
the stories told.
You gave my mother chocolate.
She told me how strong you were.
She is your granddaughter,
I think that you'd be proud.
I see you every morning, every day,
I think you are so beautiful.
I hope I gain your wisdom,
I hope I have your strength.
Thankyou,
thankyou,
thankyou."
