I shouldn't have bothered. I'm not sure if you've seen it, but *yawn*! I know the story, I like the story and they ruined it. There was no chemistry, very little acting ability and when the film finished, I felt like I'd been robbed. Even Bride & Prejudice was better than this.

The 'new' Mr Darcy isn't imposing, isn't intimidating, and is so soft around the edges, you just know she's going to fall for him. Keira Knightley (because it was her pretending to be Miss Bennett, not Miss Bennett played by her) was awful, she walks funny, talks funny and really didn't get that firey, knowledgeable, audacious personality that Miss Bennett is supposed to have.

I think I may have the video (VCR style - that is kickin' it old school!) at my other abode, and I shall watch it as soon as is humanly possible to make up for the atrocious attempt at a recreation. If you do ever get the inclination to watch Pride and Prejudice, please watch the original, or at least Bride & Prejudice (musical/Bollywood take on the film). In fact, if you haven't seen it, you should. It's an absolute classic.

Oh my goodness! I couldn't agree with you more. I thought this creation of the novel was ridiculous. Not that I am a huge fan of Jane Austin, but even her literature deserves more respect than this. There was maybe one half believable scene out of the whole movie. It was very upsetting. However, I didn't realize there was another version. I think I will look that one up.

I really enjoyed the 2005 film of Pride & Prejudice. I did not see the earlier version though. I should think about watching it.
Oh Mr Darcy, i love him! So charming.
I didn't even bother watching that version because of the hair and clothing - if you're going to do period, at least do it RIGHT.
If you want to buy the original BBC on DVD, I HIGHLY recommend the new remastered version, even though it will be more expensive. Suddenly there are amazing amounts of detail in the furnishings and dresses that you couldn't see before, everything is much more vibrant and patterned. Also, the BBC is doing a t.v. series of Emma!
I like the remake, but as an stand-alone, not so much as an adaptation.
I've not watched either, i know for shame of me, but I just never cared for it but if I do get the urge I'll remember to watch the original.
I could not agree more, the BBC version with Colin Firth was SO much better. I bought it on DVD a couple of weeks ago!
oh i haven't seen the colin firth version and i am not a fan of Jane Austen's but i loved this movie. and The new Mr. Darcy.. he is soo charming. i love him and keira.
Totally agree! I have the BBC version on VHS too and it's the only one I'll watch. The 2005 version was a total bust.
Omg the BBC version is THE BEST! I mean, it is the book: nothing skipped over, nothing left out, nothing changed! Oh and Colin Firth ..mmmm!
That Keira Knightly one was AWFUL and I was the only one who seemed to think that (although I do give out about Keira quite a lot so I think everyone thought it was just me complaining cos it was her), but you were completely right in everything you said!
Totally agree with you.
There's no chemistry in that film and for the ones who know the original... Please go out and see it!
It's so sad when they ruin a story like that..
oh i love the novel and the movie with keira knightley!
