I Have a Blue House with a Blue Window

There is nothing worse than feeling utterly and completely helpless. Most people have been in this situation, whether it be life seemingly falling apart, a betrayal by a friend or loved one for no apparent reason, losing a job, not knowing what to study, not knowing how to fix a problem, having all your money go on bills... I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

No matter what anyone tells you on days like these, absolutely nothing is going to make you feel better. In fact, you usually end up hiding yourself away somewhere, in the hope that the whole world will disappear. And if anyone decides to remind you that you're doing better than x% of the worl'd population, you just might scream.

It's days like these you need an "I Remember List". A list of things that remind you to smile, that remind you of a nicer time, to remind you that even though you're in a bit of a downer, things will look up eventually.

These can be photos, thank you cards, little poems, facebook messages, sms's from times past, a little comment to make you laugh (I have the above one in my workspace, Natalie Dee keeps me sane).

When good things happen to you, write them down, when someone pays you a compliment, keep it somewhere safe, keep a little book with you, if you see something funny (like a dog stealing pizza) have it as a keepsake.

Today : I finished my first work package. I won't explain what it is, because you'll just get confused. But it was my first, and it looks great (so I've been told). Yay!

It is ok to big note yourself, it is ok to show off sometimes, it is ok to be proud of how you look, if you feel like you look great, and no one makes a comment, just let them know that you think you look smokin'! It's ok to keep a book of these things for your bad days.

I Remember : Logging in to my Dashboard and seeing this.

So to my 15 Followers... thank you for making my day!

All you lovely people make my day!

Aww I think that's a great idea.
Photos of my dog (or even better giving her a hug) always cheer me up.

Glad I could be one of those followers helping you feel better :)

Thank you, I know you couldn't see it but when you did that write up on me I was in the best mood...annoying people.."HAY did you see ...huh..huh..did you?!!" Some times those little things will make someones day.

I find just the writing makes me feel better in the end and of course it will you, or else you wouldn't do it.

you're welcome, i love following your blog :) I hope you're not speaking from current experience with this helplessness thing. It's such a crap feeling I know, when I feel down I usually try to plan the future...having something to look forward to tends to cheer me up!

aw..
i do know how you feel.

but things will get better in time. try writing down things alot. it'll help release the bad things and you can throw that bit of paper away afterwards.

How accurate. Unfortunately being better off doesn't necessarily translate into happiness. This crazy world of ours.

oh what a lovely post. we all know how it feels being helpless... and your 'remember list' idea is kind of similar to how i pick myself up. i have a look in my black notebook of quotes i've liked, thoughts i've thought (haha), little things i've written down. it gets me feeling better most of the time.

and if it doesn't i log into blogger too, and although i'm not too sure how to work out 'followers', i like seeing people comment, and commenting back to all their very different, very diverse, but really cool blogs.

love them all! and you too! your comments are always so sweet.

Add me to that list of followers (metaphorically, not literally :D). I have just discovered your blog through Blogette and I am excited to have another funny, well-written, confident, clever blog to add to my ever growing feed list!
