This happened to my brother. He got back paid a pay rise, from a few months ago, his purchase of choice? A record player, not one of those old school vintage types, a super modern awesome one, with matching speakers. Now he's building his collection of records, which means I can buy records too!!
His reasoning was that it's an investment, you don't throw out records, because, well, you just don't. So in 20 years, if he has a record player, or his kids buy one, he can pull out his old records & show them what he was listening to in his formative years.
How do I know that will happen? Because that's exactly what Mother Dearest did today.
The Old School
3 records of ABBA, Rod Stewart, David Bowie & Saturday Night Fever (not pictured), Leif Garrett & a couple compilation records. They're awesome, a time machine back to the late 70's and 80's when MD was growing up. It's fantastic to listen to the music she loved and I think it was nice for her to be able to identify with her son a little bit, even if the music tastes are VASTLY different. The New School
Dunno what the first one is, but it's pink & it's Dubstep, Bar9, Pharrell, The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die, The Prodigy 'album', Kev Samples (for mixing I think), Common, Caspa (mine! =] ), Chase & Status and 12 inches of black gold.So the BLB had his friends over, he kicked the folks out for the evening & the music was cranking. It was the perfect Saturday night.

oh!! my grandmother has this really awesome old record player, one side is the player and the other is storage section for it. I'll upload a picture tomorrow but when I was a kid staying during the day I would play the record that had the coolest cover to them...most of them are from the 40s-70s
My Dad used to be in a number of bands, so he's very musical, & he has a CRAZY HUGE record collection.
Some of my favourite memories involve him at the record player. When you watch through our old home movies it was always on & there's so many old songs that remind me of a certain moment or just being little. I have my Dad & the record player to thank for my wide, varying taste in music.
My grandparents used to own this amazing record player, I was so sad when they got rid of it. Those records look amazing!
This sounds so cool! My Dad has some records, but no record player :(
Aww how fun! I just bought a vintage beatles record last week.. not sure what the hell Im going to do with it, but the album cover is awesome and i swear, when I press it against my ear, if i concentrate real hard, I can hear some music.. =)
yeah, baby! i love listening to records. nothing beats it on a quiet rainy night while sipping some hot cocoa (or chilled chardonnay if you're feelin' saucy) :-) xoxo
